Games illuminated
letter by letter.

MEWLHILT is a scriptorium. We do not develop; we transcribe. Each game is an illuminated codex, copied by hand, bound in vellum, and sealed with wax. We work by the Rule of Saint Benedict: prayer, labor, and transcription. A game is not complete until the final rubric is painted.

I
Book of Hours, Interactive

The Matins Engine

A digital Book of Hours where the player's actions align with the eight canonical hours. Pray at Matins, work at Prime, rest at Compline. The game's mechanics shift with the liturgical calendar — Advent is sparse, Easter is lavish. All text is hand-lettered in Uncial script.

Bestiary of Beasts

The Lindisfarne Bestiary

An interactive bestiary featuring creatures from the Aberdeen Bestiary and beyond. Each beast is painted with lapis lazuli and vermilion, its behavior governed by medieval folklore. The whale is an island; the manticore speaks in riddles. All illustrations are original illuminations.

Psalter of Penitence

The Penitential Codex

A game of confession and absolution. Players examine their conscience, select appropriate penances, and perform virtual acts of contrition. The interface is a confessional screen, the mechanics are drawn from the *Confessio Amantis*. All sins are recorded in red ink.

In Progress

The Apocalypse Manuscript

Our magnum opus: an interactive Book of Revelation. Each of the twenty-two chapters is a full-page illumination, with gold leaf and silver accents. The four horsemen ride across the screen; the seven seals are broken by player action. Estimated completion: 2030, God willing.

Scriptorium Dossier

The Holy Desk

MEWLHILT occupies the scriptorium of the former Priory of Saint Aethelred on Holy Island (Lindisfarne). Twelve scribes work in the stone-flagged hall where the *Lindisfarne Gospels* were once copied. We rise at Matins, transcribe until None, and illuminate until Vespers. The digital tools are new; the discipline is ancient.

We do not 'ship' games. We 'release' codices. Each interactive manuscript undergoes the same process as a 10th-century bible: transcription, rubrication, illumination, and binding. A game is not complete until the final 'Amen' is painted in vermilion. Some codices take years; we have time.

The scriptorium is a place of silence. We communicate in whispers, if at all. The only sounds are the scratching of quills, the turning of vellum, and the occasional cough. The digital realm is a distraction; we use it only to preserve the analog. Our oath: *Verbum caro factum est* — the word made digital flesh.

Brother Aelfric

Master Scribe

Specializes in Uncial and Insular scripts. Can copy a full page of the *Vulgate* in four hours without error. His digital calligraphy is indistinguishable from 10th-century originals. Sleeps in the scriptorium. Dreams in Latin.

Sister Hilda

Mistress of Illumination

Expert in lapis lazuli and vermilion. Grinds her own pigments from stones brought from Afghanistan. Her bestiaries are so lifelike that visitors report hearing the creatures breathe. Refuses to use synthetic colors.

Father Dunstan

Keeper of the Rule

Ensures all codices adhere to the Rule of Saint Benedict. Edits for theological accuracy and liturgical correctness. Once spent a month correcting a single rubric that misquoted the *Benedictus*. Has never smiled.
